Held EWIF Meeting
As the South Chair of EWIF, Kate Matthews from Boddy Matthews Solicitors held the EWIF Meeting in May 2022 which was well attended and gave rise to many fantastic discussions as to the importance of EWIF and the community of franchising.
Pam Gordon from The Franchising Centre gave an extremely motivational speech which was enjoyed by all that attended. The event also involved discussions around how to best raise awareness of the EWIF community of which Boddy Matthews Solicitors is a great supporter.
Reigate Business Guild
Boddy Matthews Solicitors were represented by Kate Matthews and Helen Boddy at the Reigate Business Guild event held at the old council chamber of the old town hall in Reigate to discuss issues affecting the supporting businesses in the borough and in particular Reigate. The event was well attended by the local businesses who provide much needed voluntary services to ensure Reigate remains a hub of business activity.
Macmillan Cancer Support
Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors are delighted to continue to support the Macmillan Cancer Centre at East Surrey Hospital. Kate and Helen donated the monies they raised by providing voluntary witnessing services as Solicitors during the early part of the year which is being put to good use by SASH charity for new cancer equipment.
Littleton Annual Seminar
Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews from Boddy Matthews Solicitors attended a Liberal Club Event to watch the Littleton annual seminar on employment matters held in the fabulous surroundings of the Liberal Club. Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews attended this event in person to enjoy the seminar. Following this the attendees went onto the roof top terrace to discuss the topic further with wonderful hospitality from the Liberal Club.
International Women’s Day
Boddy Matthews Solicitors were delighted to host a table for lunch on International Ladies Day at the beautiful Foxhills Club and Resort at the Surrey Chambers event. What a wonderful afternoon it was to celebrate in the presence of so many successful Surrey businesswomen and listen to a fabulous panel of speakers.

Nick’s Retiring!
Boddy Matthews put on celebrations to mark the retirement of senior commercial consultant solicitor Nick Fieldhouse, who however remains on hand for sharing his expertise in over 35 years in the legal industry. Nick has been an invaluable asset as part of the Corporate and Commercial team and is a noted key lawyer in the 2022 Legal 500. The Boddy Matthews team enjoyed lunch followed by a delicious themed cake.
Selborne Chambers Annual Litigation Conference, 6 October 2021
Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors was delighted to attend the Annual Litigation Conference 2021 of Selbourne Chambers, in person. The Conference began with a round-up of recent Supreme Court decisions. Kate then participated in great group workshops on the essential grounds of professional negligence and the recent developments relating to the rule against reflective loss. The event was also a fantastic opportunity to network in person again with the legal fraternity over a couple of glasses of champagne and tasty food!
Boddy Matthews to take part in the London Legal Walk
Boddy Matthews Solicitors are delighted to support the London Legal Support Trust in 2021. The Trust helps to provide pro bono legal advice in London to increase accessibility to all who may need advice on their rights. The Boddy Matthews Team is helping to raise much needed money to support this brilliant cause by taking part in the London Legal Walk in October 2021. The Legal Walk is a 10k walk around the sites of London, where all those in support, together with over 4500 other legal colleagues, will be participating. Kate Matthews launches EWiF Talk40!
During June, July and August 2021, Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors launched EWIFTalk40. EWIFTalk40 is a remote event, being a fully interactive 40 minute lunch time chat with like-minded EWiF ambassadors to discuss thoughts and experiences. The event sessions follow the content raised by the EWiF #FranchisingStrongerTogether campaign (more information here) generating up to date discussion on issues affecting the franchising industry.
Kate Matthews says “these type of short inter active sessions focus on a given current franchise topic and are designed to encourage, motivate and stimulate those involved in the franchise world. The aim is to provide support and share relevant experiences with a view to helping women overcome their lack of self-belief, fears and obstacles and grow their business.” Do visit the EWiF website for more information.
Kate Matthews EWIF Double Award Winner! Service Provider and Ambassador of the Year 2021
We are delighted that partner and specialist franchise lawyer, Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors was a double award winner at the EWIF Awards 2021. Kate was awarded the highly coveted and prestigious awards in the category of the EWIF Service Provider of the Year 2021 and the category of EWIF Ambassador of the Year 2021. These two awards to Kate are a high accolade to her work and a testament to her dedication and commitment to our franchising clients and in particular the EWIF mission. The Boddy Matthews team is excited to be able to properly celebrate Kate’s success when UK Government lockdown restrictions allow. Boddy Matthews Solicitors would also like to congratulate again all the other finalists and especially the winners in their respective categories.
EWIF South Meeting
As online meetings continue in place of physical meetings, EWIF is delighted to maintain contact with its Ambassadors. Chair of EWIF South, Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors hosted another successful online EWIF meeting in April 2021. The meeting attracted diverse professional attendees including franchisors and professional advisors. Louise Bruce from Big Red Box PR and Jim Mclaughlin from the Franchise Protection Company gave fascinating talks as guest speakers. Louise has provided helpful pointers on how to maximise your business opportunities using PR and social media and Jim discussed the importance of franchise business protection insurance. Kate Matthews looks forward to hosting the next Meeting in June 2021 and the return of in person meetings in the Autumn!
Charitable Donations
During these challenging times through 2020 and national lockdown, the world adapted and business tried to continue. This meant challenges for those needing legal services. Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors during this period provided their legal services for certification of documents and witnessing of signatures free of charge whilst complying with the COVID restrictions and social distancing rules imposed. Collecting donations rather than charge fees for their chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer, lead to a significant sum of £530 being raised. Helen and Kate were delighted to finally be able to present their 2020 charitable donations to East Surrey Macmillan Cancer Support Centre designated for their new Summer House project.
Helen and Kate cycled to the East Surrey Macmillan Support Centre to hand over their charitable donations as part of an eco green activity for Boddy Matthews Solicitors in tandem with its corporate social responsibility.
EWIF Awards 2021
Helen Boddy, Kate Matthews, Michal Stein and Olivia Canessa Davies of Boddy Matthews Solicitors enjoyed a lovely evening at the virtual EWIF Awards 2021! The Awards though held virtually, were a great success despite not being able to celebrate in person. The Boddy Matthews team actively seek to encourage, inspire and support gender equality and celebrate fantastic achievements in overcoming obstacles in business environments, and in particular in the field of franchising, one of their specialist practice areas. As you can see, it was not all about business as the team at Boddy Matthews Solicitors had a lot of fun with the virtual photo booth!!

Online EWIF Regional Meeting
Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors chaired yet another successful online meeting for the EWIF South group and was joined by Olivia Canessa Davies of the firm. This was the first EWIF Meeting of 2021 and it was lovely to catch up with familiar faces whilst getting to know a number of new franchise guests. Two bankers specialising in franchising gave insightful talks into the current financial climate and franchisor and franchisee support. It was motivational and uplifting to learn of the emotional and commercial support attendees were giving to each other through this difficult time which is what makes the franchise community so special.
NatWest Future Fit Economic Webinar
Kate found the NatWest Future Fit economic webinar forum to be highly motivational and inspirational. With excellent speakers leaders in their field providing the economic prognosis in light of all factors affecting businesses, including the innovative founder of Cobra beer, Lord Karan Bilimoria, the event was a fantastic start to 2021.
Reigate High Street Festivities
Boddy Matthews joined the other local businesses on Reigate High Street for some festive bell ringing! Kate and Olivia rang a bell on behalf of Boddy Matthews, joining Santa Clause who appeared at the top of the Old Town Hall. The event was a wonderful way to support the local community and spread the Christmas cheer.
