Reigate Business Guild monthly meeting 19 April 2023
Helen Boddy of Boddy Matthews Solicitors attended the Reigate Business Guild Members Morning Meeting unusually held in Reigate Caves, Tunnel Road, Reigate.
The members enjoyed an exclusive tour of the caves that riddle the town centre. We were given a fascinating insight into local history throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Thank you very much to the Wealden Cave and Mine Society and the Guild for such an interesting start to the day.
RGS Foundation Christmas Event 7 December 2022
On Wednesday 7 December, Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors enjoyed a lovely evening filled with festivities organised by the RGS Foundation and hosted by the Hatch pub. Boddy Matthews was glad to support the event which emphasised the importance of community. The RGS brass band and choir provided some excellent music and Christmas carols, completing a very festive and thoroughly entertaining evening.
Reigate Business Guild Quiz Night 17 November 2022
Kate Matthews and Dominic Maillot hosted the Boddy Matthews Solicitors team with friends on Thursday night for Reigate Business Guild’s Quiz Night at Reigate Manor Hotel. Narrowly missing out on a quiz victory, the Boddy Matthews team thoroughly enjoyed the event which, in part, will help fund the Christmas lights in Reigate this year. We’d like to thank Reigate Business Guild for organising such a fantastic evening, Reigate Manor Hotel for their fabulous hospitality and of course all the Guild Members and their teams in participating in an enjoyable occasion!
Family Disputes Discussion
Kate Matthews Louise Elliott and Dominic Maillot of Boddy Matthews solicitors very much enjoyed attending the seminar held by Mishcon De Reya and IPOS on 08 November 2022. The discussion focused on how to resolve the complicated dynamics and relationship issues when dealing with disputes in family businesses. This was followed by a very sociable and hospitable evening.
EWIF South Meeting
Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors was delighted to chair the EWIF South meeting hosted by Knights PLC on 02 November 2022. The speakers, Tom Barnes from NatWest Bank PLC and Fiona Moss of Knights PLC gave excellent and insightful talks updating the group on Financial stability and changes to the Franchise Agreement.
Karen Brady’s Women in Business & Tech Expo

Kate Matthews franchise solicitor and partner of Boddy Matthews Solicitors led an inspired talk in conjunction with EWIF on an introduction to running your own business through Franchising at Karren Brady’s Women in Business & Tech Expo on Wednesday 12 October 2022. Kate Matthews was delighted to chair this event in conjunction with EWIF, Encouraging Women Into Franchising. The eminent panel consisted of Fiona Cresswell Head of Franchise Development of Anytime Fitness, Anne- Marie Martin franchisor and Founder of didi dance, Rajeena Gurung Franchising Recruitment and Reputation Consultant at McDonalds. The informative discussions reflected the views of the panellists in their commitment to encouraging women into workplaces and lead in business matters, where they continue to be under represented and those of Boddy Matthews Solicitors and the mission of EWIF. It was an educational and inspiring event shared with likeminded people.
Nick Fieldhouse Painting in Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022

Talks at EWIF Awards
Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews and the whole team from Boddy Matthews Solicitors thoroughly enjoyed listening to the inspirational and uplifting talks that were presented at the EWIF Awards. The team at Boddy Matthews Solicitors were able to listen to talks from NatWest as the headline sponsor of the event, Claire O’Connor from Babyballet Franchising who won the EWIF Inspirational Woman of the Year 2021 award, and Suzie Lavington from the Art of Being Brilliant who spoke about The Science of Human Flourishing. These talks were all extremely positive and motivational.

Held EWIF Meeting
As the South Chair of EWIF, Kate Matthews from Boddy Matthews Solicitors held the EWIF Meeting in May 2022 which was well attended and gave rise to many fantastic discussions as to the importance of EWIF and the community of franchising.
Pam Gordon from The Franchising Centre gave an extremely motivational speech which was enjoyed by all that attended. The event also involved discussions around how to best raise awareness of the EWIF community of which Boddy Matthews Solicitors is a great supporter.
Reigate Business Guild
Boddy Matthews Solicitors were represented by Kate Matthews and Helen Boddy at the Reigate Business Guild event held at the old council chamber of the old town hall in Reigate to discuss issues affecting the supporting businesses in the borough and in particular Reigate. The event was well attended by the local businesses who provide much needed voluntary services to ensure Reigate remains a hub of business activity.
Macmillan Cancer Support
Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors are delighted to continue to support the Macmillan Cancer Centre at East Surrey Hospital. Kate and Helen donated the monies they raised by providing voluntary witnessing services as Solicitors during the early part of the year which is being put to good use by SASH charity for new cancer equipment.
Littleton Annual Seminar
Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews from Boddy Matthews Solicitors attended a Liberal Club Event to watch the Littleton annual seminar on employment matters held in the fabulous surroundings of the Liberal Club. Helen Boddy and Kate Matthews attended this event in person to enjoy the seminar. Following this the attendees went onto the roof top terrace to discuss the topic further with wonderful hospitality from the Liberal Club.
International Women’s Day
Boddy Matthews Solicitors were delighted to host a table for lunch on International Ladies Day at the beautiful Foxhills Club and Resort at the Surrey Chambers event. What a wonderful afternoon it was to celebrate in the presence of so many successful Surrey businesswomen and listen to a fabulous panel of speakers.

Nick’s Retiring!
Boddy Matthews put on celebrations to mark the retirement of senior commercial consultant solicitor Nick Fieldhouse, who however remains on hand for sharing his expertise in over 35 years in the legal industry. Nick has been an invaluable asset as part of the Corporate and Commercial team and is a noted key lawyer in the 2022 Legal 500. The Boddy Matthews team enjoyed lunch followed by a delicious themed cake.
Selborne Chambers Annual Litigation Conference, 6 October 2021
Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors was delighted to attend the Annual Litigation Conference 2021 of Selbourne Chambers, in person. The Conference began with a round-up of recent Supreme Court decisions. Kate then participated in great group workshops on the essential grounds of professional negligence and the recent developments relating to the rule against reflective loss. The event was also a fantastic opportunity to network in person again with the legal fraternity over a couple of glasses of champagne and tasty food!
Boddy Matthews to take part in the London Legal Walk
Boddy Matthews Solicitors are delighted to support the London Legal Support Trust in 2021. The Trust helps to provide pro bono legal advice in London to increase accessibility to all who may need advice on their rights. The Boddy Matthews Team is helping to raise much needed money to support this brilliant cause by taking part in the London Legal Walk in October 2021. The Legal Walk is a 10k walk around the sites of London, where all those in support, together with over 4500 other legal colleagues, will be participating. Kate Matthews launches EWiF Talk40!
During June, July and August 2021, Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews Solicitors launched EWIFTalk40. EWIFTalk40 is a remote event, being a fully interactive 40 minute lunch time chat with like-minded EWiF ambassadors to discuss thoughts and experiences. The event sessions follow the content raised by the EWiF #FranchisingStrongerTogether campaign (more information here) generating up to date discussion on issues affecting the franchising industry.
Kate Matthews says “these type of short inter active sessions focus on a given current franchise topic and are designed to encourage, motivate and stimulate those involved in the franchise world.
