The Herbert Smith Freehills Alumni bash was a jolly occasion as always with ongoing reunion of fellow colleagues through the ages. Kate Matthews enjoyed linking up with her alumni at the Skylon restaurant overlooking the Thames.
EWIF Awards
The 2019 EWIF Awards were again well attended by the franchise industry with celebrations of the achievements of the finalists and awe inspiring speeches from Penny Power OBE and EWIF sponsors and partners. Kate Matthews was honoured to participate in this event which is now running into its second decade.
EWIF Pre Awards Reception
As chair of the South Region for Encouraging Women into Franchising Kate Matthews was delighted to attend the EWIF pre Awards reception held in the inspiring surroundings of The Palm Court at the Waldorf Hotel. The glitz and glamour of the venue matched the evening event and the dazzling achievements of the finalists who were presented with their certificates.
South Meeting of Encouraging Women Into Business
Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews solicitors again chaired the regional South Meeting of Encouraging Women Into Business hosted in the beautiful surroundings at the Old Council Chamber of Reigate and Banstead Council’s offices. The members and guests from the franchising industry discussed developments in 2019 including Making Tax Digital, the results of the comprehensive 2018 survey of the franchising industry in the UK by NatWest Bank and the British Franchise Association and recruitment of franchisees by Pam Gordon of the Franchising Centre.
South Region Chair for Encouraging Women Into Franchising
The South Region Chair for Encouraging Women Into Franchising, Kate Matthews of Boddy Matthews, hosted the first meeting of 2019 at Stevens & Bolton’s offices. With guest speakers from NatWest Bank PLC and D&T accountants, the event generated lively discussion about Making Tax Digital and its effect on Franchisors, Franchisees and professional affiliates supporting the franchise industry. The NatWest BFA survey for 2018 also highlighted key aspects of the £17.2billion turnover enjoyed by franchises. With an increase of 37% women entering into the market and 93% reported profitability the industry continues to enjoy an upward surge.
Annual Christmas Outing
The Boddy Matthews annual Christmas outing was a great success. The weather was perfect for taking in the London Southbank Christmas Markets before watching justice being administered by Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution. The County Hall surroundings were an amazing setting.
