I am an employment specialist. I deal with the full range of employment law matters including representing parties at employment tribunals. I act for substantial corporate clients, SMEs and owner managed businesses. I enjoy working closely with clients as an extension to the in-house team.
I advise on all aspects of employment work from recruitment to termination and post termination issues including restraint of trade and confidentiality. I advise on employment relations (including discrimination issues), consultation and managing change in the workplace including restructuring, reorganisation and redundancy programmes. I have particular expertise in TUPE. Wherever possible, I aim to resolve disputes without recourse to legal proceedings and to equip my clients to manage and minimise risk.
I also advise senior executives on hire and fire scenarios which gives me a broader understanding of the dynamics of the employment relationship. I inspire great trust in my individual clients building both a real understanding of their priorities and strong personal relationships.
I am passionate about employment law and HR legal issues because possibly more than any other area of law it is constantly evolving and developing – there is always something new to think about. Employment puts law into a social context. It can be highly political, it is always about economics, but more than anything it has human interest and as such presents unique challenges in a commercial environment.
My strength is in dispute resolution although my mantra has long been that ‘prevention is better than cure.’ My objective is to equip my corporate clients with the tools they need to manage employment risks. Acting for both employers and employees, I believe that I have a broader understanding of the dynamics of the employment relationship.
I qualified as a solicitor and have been in practice since 1988. Following a number of years in the City, I was a partner at an international commercial law firm with offices in Reigate and the City as well as overseas. I then spent three years as a partner of a large regional firm. In recent years I have had management/board level roles which have equipped me for running my own business. I have been at the ‘coal face’ and have practical hands on experience of dealing with commercial and professional issues and HR.
On a personal level, I am enthusiastic and approachable. I am a pragmatic and well balanced individual. I value my integrity. I am approachable and sociable.
Out of work I enjoy outdoor pursuits with my family and friends. I am vitally interested in my children’s education. I spend a lot of time on the touchline watching the minis at Old Reigatians RFC and at Reigate Priory FC. I love theatre and music and am learning to play the saxophone.
