Coast to Capital – Local Industrial Strategy – Big Debate -Arora Hotel Gatwick Crawley

Partner Helen Boddy participated in this debate in relation to a Consultation on the economic profile of the area, which is the biggest piece of research undertaken to date into the economy and the area’s potential. The ensuing analysis will inform the local industrial strategy to be negotiated with government early next year and, when published, will prioritise intervention and investment in the local area.

British Franchise Association event

The British Franchise Association hosted an inspirational event Empowering Women in business in Oxford. Kate Matthews represented Boddy Matthews as one of the delegates benefitting from insight into the incredible personal journeys shared by guest speakers Grace Harding of Ocean Basket franchise and Sara Winckless the former Olympic Games Medallist in rowing.  Penny Haslam was the award winning motivational speaker and former BBC presenter who engaged the audience with her thoughts on banishing imposter syndrome for women and how to be the best you can be to succeed.

Early Christmas Celebrations

Boddy Matthews Solicitors hosted clients at a very special and unique exhibition: Hogarth: Place and Progress at Sir John Soane’s Museum. The exhibition united all of Hogarth’s surviving painted series for the first time and demonstrated how Hogarth married the idea of progress with the moral geography of London. One highlight here was ‘Humours of an Election’ which given the timing was very apt! With the museum being lit by candlelight and an accompanying gin and tonic a great cultural evening was had by all.

Kate Matthews hosted a successful November Meeting of EWIF (Encouraging Women Into Franchising) in her role as South Chair. MetroBank Orpington kindly hosted the event for EWIF with Franchisors, Franchisees and affiliate consultants, bankers and lawyers all attending. Guest speakers presented financial overview for 2020 and software choices for franchising and how to keep passwords and systems secure with IT ever developing.

The Vineking Tasting Rooms were the perfect informal venue to learn about the lifesaving actions to take for heart attacks and cardiac arrest. Kate Matthews attended the Reigate Business Guild event courtesy of Francis Fernandes and his wife, to learn about these life saving techniques and the location of local defibrillators and hear about the miraculous event and the actions of those who saved Francis’ life.

Helen Boddy participated in a stimulating seminar, which explored the contours of the so-called rule in Said v Butt so as to consider how far and in what circumstances employees might be able to seek redress directly against their employer’s officers, taking as a starting point the decision of Lane J in Antuzis v DJ Houghton Catching Services Ltd [2019] EWHC 843 (QB); [2019] Bus LR 1558 (otherwise known as ‘the chicken catchers’ case).
